New owner with a Garmin 530W and a Dynon SV1000 and SV700. Thought for weeks that I could fly an IFR approach with the SkyView, but could never figure out how to load a specific procedure, learned here that I can see the aircraft position on the approach but not actually fly it. Need to use the Garmin for that.
I have a source selector on my Dynon autopilot that lets me select between Garmin and SkyView. I have two bearing pointers on the SkyView, but no idea how to get a source to each pointer?
Why would I ever use the SkyView of a source for the flight director with the Garmin?

As you learned, you can't use the Skyview as the navigation source for an approach. To answer your second question, information on how to change the source for the bearing pointers in (surprise!) in the User's Guide.
Last question...um, if you're flying an approach, you're using the Garmin as the nav source, so you wouldn't.

You can select the source of the nav data to display on the Skyview - but if it originates from Skyview itself it's not IFR-legal. It works great for VFR nav though and the flight planning functions are excellent. Change sources to a certified IFR receiver and you've got the best of both worlds.

Responses so far assume you have the 530W feeding the Skyview via the Dynon ARINC-429 (somewhere behind the panel), along with a serial connection. Check your serial inputs for the correct configuration. As mentioned, the Pilot guide will explain how to set things up. You can also watch the educational videos Dynon posted a few years back.
