Is there any loss in functionality for the map/ADSB/Txp functions when using a Skyview display without ADAHARS (or EMS for that matter)?

Yes, both geometric (GPS) and pressure altitude are in the ES message.

Without an AHRS, you don't have pressure altitude for the transponder, so you will need an external encoder.

Additionally, the automatic air/ground switching will not work with the transponder.

On the GPS map, on the ground, the map may jump around since it cannot stabilize itself with magnetic heading.

So lots of little things, but no deal killers if you really want an install like that.

If you are considering this for a certified plane, note that we cannot promise the transponder would pass any scrutiny for the 2020 ADS-B out mandate. The transponder has a different part number than other Trig units, and that may cause paperwork issues. Technically it is identical of course.

It is destined for a certified aircraft. I was hoping to "fly under the radar" with zero integrity until closer to 2020. As Dynon has pointed out in other threads, there will likely be more cost effective TSO'd GPS receivers by that time. I also expect the FAA will have come to its senses regarding the need for a STC/Field Approval for ADSB-out compliance installations in certified aircraft.

The Dynon version of the Trig transponder is the same and a statement from Trig to that affect would help with a Field Approval. The down side is the pressure encoder and ground/air portion. Even though there are no signal integrity elements to either of these, that fact will likely not stop the FAA from rejecting the idea.
