Hello knowledgable people. I'm looking at various kit to be installed in an RV7 but need an answer regarding the radio. Basically we'd prefer to use a remote-mounted transponder (Trig TT21) and radio (Trig TY91) with a SkyView Classic EFIS. I know the transponder can be used (because a friend of mine has the set up in his Tecnam) but I'm not sure about the radio.

Just to confirm what I'm saying, we do not want the radio or transponder control heads in the panel. Both to be controlled through the SkyView. The boxes would sit either underneath a seat or behind the panel.

I have searched the forum to no avail and have called Trig twice now to ask (but no call back because of Covid etc etc).

So, can anyone give a definitive answer and if it's quite an easy thing to set up?

(I've got this set up on an MGL EFIS but that isn't very relevant :))

Thanks HFMan for the steer. I looked into the firmware version (11) where support for the radio was announced but there's not a great deal of detail. I'm very grateful that you managed to find an indication that the TY91 will work with SkyView but it would be great to hear if anyone can point to anywhere where I might be able to see how the settings (squelch, intercom volumes etc) may be accessed through the SkyView EFIS. My Google search function has smoke coming out of it but I'm not really in a position yet where I know I can use the full functionality of the radio if it is mounted remotely and accessed through the EFIS.

If you want to control the boxes via Skyview, you'll need to purchase the Dynon version of the radio and transponder. You'll still require the radio control head in the panel but not the transponder.

Thanks Ray. I managed to talk to Trig, yesterday, who basically said the same thing. It seems Trig make the kit for Dynon but Dynon use a different protocol for communicating between the EFIS and radio. Apparently you are able to have the Trig radio with its control head in the panel AND connect to the EFIS to drag frequencies to the radio etc but you don't get full radio functionality through the EFIS.

I think it will have to be remote mounted transponder (controlled through the EFIS) and a Dynon radio control head in the panel. Shame as I wanted to avoid more things in the panel, even though there is plenty of space.

Thanks everyone for their help and at least I now have the definitive answer.
