Skyview WiFi Adapter and Software Updates

Ok in theory I'm thinking that if you set up your phone as a mobile hotspot and your Skyview is equipped with the WiFi adapter, it should be possible for the Skyview to download all the latest software updates directly from the Dynon site without first manually downloading each to a flash drive.

Is this possible today, and if not is it planned for a future software update?

The SV system, to my knowledge, has not security software or firewall to keep hackers out. Connecting it to the internet would be quite risky, IMO.

IMHO This is mostly a non issue. At the most, it is an extremely small risk since many home/hangar WIFI have firewalls. Add to this that the download only requires INTERNET connectivity for a minute or two at the most. After the download, it would be disconnected from the INTERNET for another 28 days. This makes it an extremely unattractive target for hackers.

I don't see the security issue assuming SV is acting as a "client" over a secure connection to the Dynon servers. Each SV system has unique identifying information that could be used for login credentials. How is this different from using a browser to connect to a server via SSL?

Another idea is the database concierge model, which I just posted about in the "ideas for improvement" section. Either would work.

Agree that most networks have firewalls but that is an assumption, as would be the limited time connected to the internet. Still not a risk I would take, however small.

As hard as I try, I cannot see the connection between driving on a highway and opening my Skyview OS up to hackers.

Simple risk management. You are at a significantly greater risk to die from a car accident than from somebody hacking your SkyView.

Well it answers my question anyway - no automagic updates.

I agree there is a small security concern, but if the software were designed ONLY to allow connection to the Dynon site I have to believe that is a pretty small concern. ET phone home, etc.
