Just trying to clarify something. Can the SV tune and display comms from a SL 40?

I have been looking in the manual but can't seem to find it. thanks.

Nope. I believe it's a future enhancement when Dynon brings out their own radio.

You currently can get the frequencies sent to SL30/40 from one of the Garmin handheld GPS devices.

Right. We don't do this now, but once we work on radio support for our own radio, we'll add the ability to send frequncies to the SL30/SL40 too

Now that the Dynon radio has been announced will frequency output to the SL30/SL40 be supported in SV 6.0?

Yes, 6.0 includes frequency out to an SL-30/40. It will also display the frequency from the SL-30/40 on the top of SkyView and do reverse lookups on the frequency set in the external radio.

With an SL-30/40 you'll actually be able to see this on your screen (except the KPAE in green and DUAL/RX/TX):

That is fantastic. Thanks for keeping the customers with SL-30/40 radios in mind as you are developing the Dynon radio line.

Do you have a pinout for this? I'm getting ready to install the ADS-B, along with swapping out the capacitance-to-voltage converters for the Princeton Electronics ones, and a few other odds and ends, so I'll be under the panel for a few days later this week...if I could pre-wire the SV and SL-40 at this time, anticipating the new software, that'd save me a hassle later...

Thanks!

The A210 claims that it's fully SL-40 compatible, so it should work, but we haven't yet tried one.

SL-40 serial out (pin 3) to any SkyView serial in.

Only one connection needed? wont it be both sending and receiving?
"Yes, 6.0 includes frequency out to an SL-30/40" (Serial TX)
"also display the frequency from the SL-30/40 on the top of SkyView" (Serial RX)
I figured pin 3 and 10 on Sl40 using RS232.. Is that the right?

Yeah, sorry, you do need in and out from the SL-40. I was thinking they were only asking about displaying on the top of SkyView, not also tuning it. So you also need to hook the SL-40's pin 10 to one of our transmits.

SL-40 serial out (pin 3) to any SkyView serial in.

Just out? I'm assuming that it's just a serial pair (I just wanted to make sure before pulling more wires) between the SV and the SL-40...

If you want to display frequencies from the SL40 on the SkyView display, you need to connect an SL40 TX to a SV RX
If you want SkyView to push frequencies to the SL40, you need to connect a SV TX to a SL40 RX
If you want to do both, connect both TX and RX.
The usual SkyView serial device caution applies - any serial devices must be connected to ALL SkyView displays.

The A210E is just the A210 with 8.33kHz frequency spacing so as noted above it should work. My A210 gets frequencies from my GPS495 so I expect it'll work with Skyview 6.0.

The one feature missing with the A210 is that if you select a frequency on the Garmin GPS and hit enter the frequency is sent to the SL30/40 standby channel. (See Connecting to a Garmin VHF Comm Radio in the Garmin GPS manual) This feature doesn't work on the A210 and iCOM doesn't have plans to implement it. :-/

Re: SL 30 to Skyview

Is Skyview 6.0 ability to remotely control the Garmin SL30 radios limited to the COMM section, or can it tune the NAV section too? I see that it can already display the VOR/ILS freq & ident in the HSI NAV infobox, and set the OBS with the CRS knob, as far back as version 3.

If you have a NAV frequency selected in SkyView it will send this to the NAV standby on the SL-30.
