I'm getting started wiring the comm and intercom. It is required for the builder to build a harness and the D-sub connector and pins are included.

What specific crimper do I use for the pins?

If you won't be doing much more than your build, these from ACS will get the job done for standard pins you'll be working with (not high density). Daniel's crimpers are the industry standard if you plan to be crimping a lot of pins but they are expensive.

Cruzer, agree with Ray. Machined pins are better than dog-ear pins, IMHO, but require more expensive crimpers. Steinair sells a cheaper crimper version (P/N SAT-004), but it does not have the variable wire diameter settings that Daniels has. However, you can usually find the Daniels crimper on eBay at a reasonable price, the DMC AFM8 M22520/2-01 is a good choice. I have purchased several on eBay with no issues. Should be able to find one around $100 vs. $435 new. I think the Steinair crimper is about $40. Be sure to get the right pin positioners for standard and/or high density pins if you go the Daniels route. Garmin is about the only standard vendor I can think of that uses high density D-Sub connectors (like on a 430W), but good to have that positioner just in case. Also, I have found that Steinair is about the cheapest on machined pin prices, although others might have even better recommendations

If you go the Daniels route, you can get relatively inexpensive ($14) positioners on Amazon (Cablegia). Shipping is expensive at $28 but they ship fast. I've purchased some from Daniels (DMC) and they have good pricing but you'll wait 3 weeks for whatever you order (my experience so far).

Hey Ray, ain't Amazon amazing! Not available thereseveral years ago. Had to buy on eBay or DMC. $28 shipping is silly so you're not really paying $14, but still half price compared to a new one direct from DMC. Thanks for the link!

Thanks for the input everyone. A buddy of mine happened to have the Daniels crimper and he let me use it. It works absolutely perfectly with the pins provided by Dynon!

It's actually fun making the harness too :)
