SV-Intercom-25 - Installation in a 4 seater?

I'm wondering if you can use the SV-Intercom-25 in a 4 seater aircraft such as the Vans RV-10. I can see that it is designed for a Pilot and Co-Pilot, but then both may need to transmit through it, but the passengers at the back only need to hear everyone and speak to everyone. Is it possible to connect two units or you need to buy some other Intercom brand? Thank you.

I had a similar situation recently & used an Intercom with an Expansion unit to get the extra 2 positions.

If using (or intend to have a # 2 Radio later) I'd use an Audio Panel to get the outcome you need -  http://www.ps-engineering.com  have a good range of these  ;)

As designed, and recommended installation, the SV-INTERCOM-2S is intended as a 2-seat Intercom. Yes, there are various ways to "kludge" it... but doing so is a poor solution and not recommended.

We're in the process of changing our recommendation to not use the SV-INTERCOM-2S with more than one COM radio.

For 4-seat aircraft, or more than one COM radio, we recommend that you use an Audio Control Panel from PS Engineering.

Hi Dynonsupport,
can you please tell a bit more about the issue why only one COM should be used with SV-INTERCOM?
In my panel modernization project I would like to keep the old 25KHz spaced Collins COM for emergency and add one SV-COM-X83 (+SV-D1000T,...). I have an old simple audio amplifier with fading performance I would like to swap. Wiring for two COMs and external switches to toggle mike input etc. can be left. Therefore SV-INTERCOM would be perfect.
Thx, Stefan

We no longer recommend that the SV-INTERCOM-2S be used with two COM radios. We're revising the SV-INTERCOM-2S manual to reflect this changed recommendation.

If you wish to use two COM radios, we recommend that you install an audio panel from PS Engineering.

When two COM radios are used with the SV-INTERCOM-2S, there is no way to mute (audio from) the second COM radio when one COM radio is transmitting.

The SV-COM-C25 does not support the "interlock" signal that is a feature of most other COM radios.

The requirement to use a Single Pole Double Throw (SPDT) to switch the PTT signal so that only one COM radio transmits at a time is a poor user experience.
The second COM radio input is still present in the SV-INTERCOM-2S, so if you decide to connect two COM radios to an SV-INTERCOM-2S you can do so; but our recommendation is not to do so.

@Victor Gaspar, mcm, the PMA4000 will do exactly what you are looking for with a small panel footprint!

I bought the Skyview intercom and plan to install Two radios, a trig(TY91) and a sky view unit. This is forced on me because I need an Australian "approved" TSO radio to fly in controlled airspace and the sky view unit is just a backup.

The trig has an interlock line so that the sky view radio can't overpower the trig receiver.

Can't I simply fit a little relay (normally closed) to disconnect the sky view audio from the sky view intercom
when the trig is transmitting?

Why is a flip flop switch a "poor user experience"? An Audio panel has a switch that does exactly the same.

We've posted our reasoning for no longer recommending the use of two radios with an SV-INTERCOM-2S. To date, we haven't modified the hardware of the SV-INTERCOM-2S so if you wish, you can connect two COM radios with the current versions of the SV-INTERCOM-2S... we just no longer recommend doing so.

The Interlock pin will only work with similarly-equipped COM radios; the SV-COM-C25 does not have an equivalent pin.

Theoretically wiring up a relay could work, but we have no guidance available for this.

Thanks for the reply. I note that the European sky view radio (x83) has a transmit interlock line on pin 18, the same as the Trig TY91 and the Dynon installation guide says that the transceiver part of the systems are not modified.

I therefore wonder if the transmit interlocks of the X83 and the TY91 would work if connected? This would solve my problem. Alternatively, I could just get rid of the Dynon intercom, but that would make my panel messy.

Yes, the transmit interlocks of the SV-COM-X83 and the TY91 will work together.
