With electronics Tinkerers making these gadgets for less than $150, is Dynon going to come out with something for less - a lot less - than $995?

The Tinkerers are able to thanks to the millions of Raspberry Pi and RTL-SDR units sold.  If they used hardware which were only sold to US customers and only compatible with a small group of users, they it would cost a lot more.

But it would be nice if it were a little cheaper.  You already get traffic from the transponder, so you're gaining weather with the SV-ADSB-470, which is great, but not a deal breaker.

Compared to a Stratus type device, the price is comparable. I sold my Stratus 2 to help fund the ADSB-470, which is tucked neatly behind the panel and has a dedicated external antenna that is much less expensive than the Stratus receiver.

Of course, I may still build one of the Stratux boxes just because I like to tinker.

I suspect Dynon will soon allow the ADS-B related bits to flow to a portable device as well.
