Hi all; I hate to join and immediately ask for help, but this is messing with my head!

I’m in the process of swapping the vac/electric steam gauges in my Europa for:

10” Classic
2 axis AP
EMS
ADHRS

I am retaining my old Trig TT21 and TY91 Xpdr/com.

I have connected the TY91 to a serial RX/TX from the SV unit, and configured it in the menu to be a Trig TY9X and the primary com.

I used Serial port 1, and connected the Brown with violet stripe to pin 5, and the brown with orange stripe to pin 6 of the TY91 head unit.

I cannot get them to communicate with each other though.
Anyone have any ideas of what I’m missing?

Thanks all.

You have the correct wiring for TX/RX. Suggest you also add a ground wire between the two as a reference (signal ground). You should also consider using shielded wire for the serial connection.

Thanks Raymo; they’re both connected to the same negative bus-bar already, so this shouldn’t be the issue?

Hi Rick,

Good to see you are at last bringing your Europa into the 21st century!

I believe you are connected/configured to the wrong pins:-
According to my installation manual:-
Serial Port 1
TX should be Pin 3- Brown/ Violet
RX should be Pin 4- Brown/ Orange
or alternatively:-
If using Serial port 2
Tx should be Pin 5- Yellow/ Violet
Rx should be Pin 6- Yellow/Orange

Best Regards,

Alan.

Ahh..
Sorry, I now see you were referring to pins 5 & 6 on the TY91 and not as I thought Pins 5&6 on the Skyview!
Apologies..

Just for completeness, I thought I should add the issue and likely solution to this issue for the future:

I spoke to Trig, who were very helpful as always. Support for this function was introduced in firmware version 1.5; my Trig is running version 1.3. The great folk at Trig are updating it free if charge.
