I have purchased the skyview about 2.5 years ago. Only now finished my kitfox project and installed the system. (Up and running)
What is the best and fastest way to upgrade the software of the skyview (if needed)?

You can always go from any version to the latest available. So basically, go to downloads.dynonavionics.com and follow the instructions to get the latest software and databases. There are detailed instructions on the actual downloads page as well.

Can I chime in here please.
What sort of approximate download time is normal for updates? Are we talking minutes or longer. Just thinking about required battery state etc...

Thanks,
Alan.

Software updates to the Dynon screens have been about 5 minutes in my experience, but you do need to have all your Dynon components powered up and online to do it, you can't just run the screen alone on the backup battery.

Thanks.
Will update this weekend and will advice. By the way, is it possible to upload my own maps ? Or should I use only the maps provided through PVFR or fore flight ?

The Skyview now comes with maps, free of charge. You should be able to download them for free.

For sectionals, the only option, as I understand it, is to purchase them from Seattle Avionics. Some people have issues with them downloading (slow) but others have the system figured out so downloads are mostly automated. This requires two thumb drives so one is ready for updates as they come out and the other is installed in the Skyview.

Dynon Avionics supplies "maps" only for the USA as it can obtain the raw aviation data, and refactor it for SkyView, for no cost from the "raw" US FAA databases.

Outside the US, (EVERYWHERE other than the US) you need to pay for "maps" (Aviation Data) from vendors such as Jeppesen or PocketFMS.

See http://dynonavionics.com/docs/SkyView_NavMapping.html

Free maps are only for USA, correct ?  Others would need to know for clarity.  ;)

I know they are for the US. Not sure what costs are involved elsewhere - but good point. My assumption was possibly incorrect that he was US based.
