Updating to ADS-B Out w Skyview and Trig TT22

I will be making the plunge to get my experimental Kitfox ADS-B out ready. I did not build it, so will appreciate any guidance I can get.

The installed transponder is the Trig TT22. It is working fine with the Skyview system. I have two screens.

My research tells me I will need the Trig TN70 GPS system to make everything work. I am assuming it is not possible to use the Dynon OEM version, is that correct?

The connections between units is not completely clear to me. For the GPS coax, would a single connection to the TN70 supply the Dynon system what it needs? That assumes the TN70 and TT22 are connected. Or will I need to connect both Skyview displays and the TN70 to the coax?

I will contact Trig as well, but it seems that much of the connection information will concern the Dynon.

All you'll need for ADS-B OUT compliance is the Dynon GPS-2020 antenna. Wire it to both screens (RS232) and you are done.

If you already have a GPS-250, you can just replace it and connect to the same wires (it should already be wired to both screens) or you can opt to keep the 250 for redundancy (which is what I did but more difficult).

You just made my month!  Not only is that a much less expensive option, but all I would have to replace is the actual GPS receiver.  The cables are already run to the two screens.  That cable should be OK, right? While redundancy would be nice, I have an ADS-B in that would be a backup if necessary. So I will pull the original GPS receiver.

Then I would imagine I would need to formally set up the system for official ADS-B out?

Surely it can't be this easy!

So, to be clear:

If you have the SV-XPNDR-261, which is a custom (but different) version of the Trig TT22, you can connect our SV-GPS-2020 as a position source via SkyView.

If you have an "actual" Trig TT22 (with a Trig control head), it can not be connected to SkyView or use our SV-GPS-2020 as a position source. You'll need to check with Trig for what the available options are here for compliance.

To boil it down: if you're controlling your transponder via SkyView, you have the Dynon version. If you have a Trig control head, you have the trig version. Only the Dynon version is compatible with the SV-GPS-2020.

Yes. I had assumed, based on your original post, that you were controlling the Trig TT22/261 via Skyview and likely had a GPS-250 antenna.

Just swap out the 250 for the 2020, configure it in the Skyview go fly. Then get a performance report from the FAA (they recommend monthly) to ensure you meet requirements.

To be clear, you need to have the Dynon labeled version of the TT22 and is should have added a sticker for a software update that came out a couple years ago for compliance with the final ADS-B rule (I don't remember the version.)
I suspect you could simply take a picture of the serial number label and email to Dynon support to verify you have the Dynon version, before you spend any money, to avoid taking the wrong fork in the road.
