What screws are used for the SkyView Touch/HDX?

I'll be getting the HDX once it's available but want to replace the four screws with specialized security screws. Probably do the same for the Dynon radio/intercom panels as well. Can you tell me the length/pitch/head of the screws used?

The screws shipped with SkyView for mounting are #6-32 x 5/8" hex heads.

Thanks. Hex socket (for allen wrenches) or hex cap (for socket wrenches)? If they're hex socket screws, is the head recessed (like a cone)?

They are pan-head screws with a hex socket for use with an hex key/Allen wrench.

Actually the HDX uses a 6-32 socket head cap screw, which is different from the pan head or button head screws used on the classic SkyView screens.  The HDX has recessed pockets for the screw heads.

Your would still use the pan or button head screws on the radio head or other modules.

Since we are discussing screws...  I have a quick question.  I have always used 6-32 socket head cap screws for all my panel mounts (when possible), and some years ago had some black oxide #6 washers with the same diameter as the socket head.  I ran out of those and have been looking ever since to find a source for small OD socket head washers.  I have looked and looked and looked, but have been unable to find the small washers.  The smallest ones I have been able to find are still much larger than the screw head and just don't look right.  In some applications, like the Dynon recessed holes, I can't use washers at all.  I don't use any washers right now, which causes chipping of the powder coat around the holes.  Any one know of a source for cap screw washers (preferably black oxide) beyond the obvious suppliers?   :-/

Can any of you tell me the diameter of the recessed holes? Nearly all security screws have heads that may be too large...

Dave,

McMaster Carr has the correct socket head cap screws with the correct washers captive on them.

I just ordered these brass screws from McMaster Carr. Dynon also sells screws but shipping cost is high, IMO.

97715A104 Brass Button-Head Socket Cap Screw, 6-32 Thread, 1/2" Length, packs of 25

Skysailor - tried these awhile back, but all the MC socket screws have split washers. These are worse than no washer as the split edge really chips the powdercoat. Really looking for flat washers. Found some stainless steel screw/washer ones from China some time ago, but their minimum order was like 50K screws. I have looked at dozens of suppliers, but so far, no luck. I know the flat washers are out there somewhere because I had some once, but don't know where they came from!

Try these http://www.albanycountyfasteners.com/NAS-Flat-Washer-18-8-Stainless-Steel-s/756.htm 0.267 OD SS #6 SHCS 0.218 - 0.226 OD. If they are too big put several on a long screw clamp em good with a nut and turn them down as desired with a file while spinning them in a drill.

Thanks RV711AC. I actually have hundreds of the 0.267 OD washers and yes they are too big. As I mentioned before, I had some that were the same size as the screw head, but used them up. The ones with built-in washers have washers the same size as the screw heads. Actually spent another 2 hours last night looking on the internet, but can only find screw/washer units from China in 50K lots. As far as filing them down, I have over 50 screws in my panel so it would not seem too practical to file. I had some before, so I know they are out there somewhere!
