Sorry I'm 4 weeks late on this reply. Actually, your battery also stabilizes the output of the alternator. Depending upon what kind of alternator you have and what kind of regulator you have, a dead (completely dead) battery can cause alternator instability, which could damage equipment or...

Dynon D180 with Garment 660 IFR

A Garmin 660 is not an approved GPS for IFR flight. While you can get the 660 to send information to the D180 via a direct NMEA link (per page 181 of t he 660 pilot manual), and have the D180 autopilot follow that, you won't be IFR legal using the 660 either for enroute or approach. You don't...

One Common Circuit Breaker (Fuse) for Intercom / Intercom Panel/ SV COM Panel

Personally, I'm not a fan of doubling (or tripling) items on a single CB or fuse. It's more difficult to debug/maintain that way, and as you indicate, you lose two things if the breaker/fuse pops. In this particular case, if you only have one COM and the COM dies/pops the CB/fuse, the Audio...

    Voltmeter Wire

Personally, using the Aeroelectric Connection's Z-14 diagram as a basis for my electrical system, I measure two voltages for pins 1 and 2 at the positive terminal of each of the two batteries. I figure that the voltage I care about is what the battery is doing (or being charged with). Some might...

Enhancement Request - GPS Alt. and AGL output

And just as an incentive to catch up with a competitor, the Garmin G3X system outputs both of these in its serial stream. GPS Data Message field 34, and GPS AGL Data Message field 11. Do them one better and output AGL in 10 ft. increments, rather than 100 ft. increments.

Enhancement Request - GPS Alt. and AGL output

In chapter 25 of the installation manual, the serial port output format is indicated. In the ADAHRS, fields 28 and 60 output Pressure Altitude and Density Altitude, respectively. I request that GPS Altitude and AGL also be two of the output fields. We know that the Skyview system KNOWS both GPS...

Show IFD440 COMM in top bar

I looked through a copy of the IFD-440 install manual and could find nothing about talking to an EFIS over a serial line with SL-30 protocol. Doesn't mean it isn't there - just that I couldn't find it.

Differences between HDX and Classic worth the cost?

I didn't blow off the NTSB report, and I'm perfectly willing to admit and accept that the pilots in the Colgan air disaster made numerous mistakes. Obviously, they could have reacted far better and saved the plane and the people in it. My point, which apparently I did not make clearly enough...

Differences between HDX and Classic worth the cost?

It's good that you guys are able to argue the merits of the case, presenting facts and data, rather than just using ad-hominem attacks.

Differences between HDX and Classic worth the cost?

Again, pretty harsh. They screwed up, obviously, but maybe with an earlier warning that something was going on, they wouldn't have had to react in an emergency situation, but in an earlier, developing situation. Isn't this an argument for NOT having the system wait until they're actually...

Differences between HDX and Classic worth the cost?

In your opinion. You're welcome to disagree, but I don't see how you can just declare my opinion "invalid". I agree that autotrim is nice. But I spend about 0.001% of my flight time adjusting trim when flying IFR/IMC (or VFR/VMC, for that matter). I trim for climb, then trim for cruise, then...

Differences between HDX and Classic worth the cost?

FIKI or not, people occasionally encounter ice when in IMC. Better to know there's something going on than not know, is my point. And E-AB aircraft, which is (at least so far) the majority of Dynon installs, there's no such thing as STC'd or not - people just do what they do...

Differences between HDX and Classic worth the cost?

I've got a different take on the Autotrim capabilities found in most EFIS's, and here's what I generally say to my customers when they ask about it. If you're flying VFR only, Autotrim is great - takes a small load off the pilot and makes sure the plane is trimmed so that when you turn off the...

    AMP Reading appears to low

DBRV10 spoke to this issue, but I'll discuss all three possible shunt locations, and why (IMO) "A" is the best choice. "C" tells you what the aircraft load is - that's essentially what the VP-X does, if you have one, and the VP-X also gives you individual current draws. If you don't have a...

    Pitot Heat

Sounds like the problem is in the VP-X, not in the pitot heat. If it draws 8.7A but the VP-X pops even though it's on a 10A circuit, how can that be anything other than the VP-X's issue?

    Map Info Column Discrepancy

A month or two ago I reported a similar bug with the DEST WPT field with respect to switching between the Skyview and (in my case, a GPS-175) external navigator. The response from Dynon was "huh - that's interesting".

Switching Com from IFD540 to Dynon Com Panel/ GPS Map Question

Do you have an audio panel for COM? What are the two radios hooked up to? The Dynon by itself cannot "switch COM radios". Maybe I'm misunderstanding the question...

Is Garmin SL-30 and HDX an IFR Navigator ?

Yes, for VOR/ILS/LOC approaches and en-route navigation. Sometimes it seems to be hard to get MFG's to say that, but there's no reason that it wouldn't be, assuming you're using the SV as the CDI.

ADSB weather from Skyview to FF

Works for me. If there is, I haven't found it in the ADS-B world.
