SkyView Battery Charging before first flight.

Let me respond.  There used to be a thread on this forum that discussed this issue and how I modified my electrical system to simplify the charging of the SkyView battery. I can no longer find this thread, so I retract 'well documented'. It was at one time, but not anymore. I also never claimed...

SkyView Battery Charging before first flight.

Yes, no good deed goes unpunished.  I'm perfectly happy with Dynon's method now that my HR-II has a ground power port for the EFIS system.  I published a complete annotated schematic of my electrical system so that my friends (and others) can get a head start on all of these subtle system design...

Frequency pass through from Aera or GPSMap

My normal startup works fine... Boot d1000, start engine, then boot d700, aera, sl40 together. However, I then tested scenarios of simulated efis failure that did not operate as expected. I have provided 24 scenarios to Dynon and will wait for their feedback before reaching any conclusions. Vern

Frequency pass through from Aera or GPSMap

I emailed a complete analysis to Dynon on this issue. One way to reliably repeat the problem is to power up one SkyView, then the Aera on its battery, then the second SkyView, com and Aera main bus. Fails every time. Knowing that, I have a workaround but it would be nice to see if my unique...

SkyView Battery Charging before first flight.

He was flying out of a Class C airport which requies a clearance to enter.  Without a functioning radio he would have had to perform a NORDO approach into a busy airport.  The chaseplane took the lead for the landing approach as a formation of two (facts).  I think this was a prudent procedure...

Frequency pass through from Aera or GPSMap

I had a long go at this before I saw this email. It appears to be about a 50/50 chance after booting up that this function does not work. Rebooting individual EFIS screens does not seem to help it, but rebooting the whole system does in some cases. The TX lines to the SL-40 always work...

SkyView Battery Charging before first flight.

Folks are starting to have opinions that are unrelated to the facts in this case. I will no longer comment.

SkyView Battery Charging before first flight.

Keep it on the straight and narrow here.  This is about a technical issue that could be improved to enhance pilot decision making. Years ago, i had a series of switch failures in my RV-9.  After the first one was replaced, was it poor decision making to continue flying with the same brand of...

Frequency pass through from Aera or GPSMap

Thanks, Jake. I will try this.  I may have to rewire a bit, but its a simple experiment. I have one SkyView with battery on the master bus and one on the avionics bus with the Aera.  I will force the Aera and/or the Sl-40 Off until the SkyView systems are online.  Right now the sequence is...

SkyView Battery Charging before first flight.

I eliminated steam gauges entirely on my second build, confident in the reliability of the SkyView system. However, I knew every wire and every puff of smoke kept therein. This is not typical. A lot of very competent homebuilders are not comfortable sheparding electrons, so this critical...

Frequency pass through from Aera or GPSMap

More info: Powered up today, no joy on the passthrough. Manually powered down one screen and shazam, it worked! Powered up the second screen and pass-through still worked. Tried to recreate the problem by shutting the system down and up again, pass-through worked. It looks like I am getting a...

SkyView Battery Charging before first flight.

-Apparently, the main battery was fully charged. -See previous post about confirmation bias. -Pilot was more than capable of flying a blank panel and did so safely.  He has several thousand hours flight experience and a great deal of formation time. He has built two RVs. Vern

SkyView Battery Charging before first flight.

There are a number of contributing factors at play here, but the one that is related to the SkyView is documented here.  The Dynon procedure for charging the battery on the ground may not work for everyone. In my HR-II case, the original main battery charging port on my aircraft was limited to...

Frequency pass through from Aera or GPSMap

Well, the plot thickens. After probing the Aera serial input into the SkyView system and sending it into Dynon, the next flight worked fine. The flight after that didn't. Very frustrating. I can check the diagnostics in the serial port setup and everything is fine, the SkyView is just not...

SkyView Battery Charging before first flight.

It's well documented that the Dynon SkyView battery is difficult to charge on the ground and needs several flight hours to bring to full charge.. I worked around this by installing a ground power port for running the SkyView and charging its battery. Today I learned of an inflight emergency on...

    Skyview current draw

I agree. The font size for the D700 is inadequate. I am considering removing my D700 and putting a good legible GPS its place. Once the SV trial map licence runs out I will make the decision. Just to be fair, the Garmin Aera display is even worse, so it will get punted as well. If the D700...

Version 11.1 Trim nose up (or down) too sensitive

The small aircraft that most of us fly are in constant need of trim adjustments, with or without an autopilot. Ideally, you'd engage the AP once the aircraft is fully stabilized and you would only ocassionally be asked for trim adjustments. However, i'm just not that patient. I usually snap...

Request for 5% Wide EMS Screen!!!!

Some kind of 5% strip (or two) would be very useful when using the 6-pack PFD. I have a 10 inch with PFD/engine and a 7 inch with map. I would like the option of the 6 pack for acro. While you are at it, allow for larger fonts on the engine and map displays. The 7 inch is legible only during...
