Is Garmin SL-30 and HDX an IFR Navigator ?

Is the Garmin Sl-30 COM/VOR/ILS attached via a serial port to the Skyview HDX, (with SV-XPNDR-261 and SV-GPS-2020), constitute an "IFR Navigator" for the purposes of satisfying FAA IFR requirements?

More and more, I am leaning towards the Garmin SL30 direction.

    Now Approved: Nearly 600 Aircraft

airGuy, Again, Thanks! I appreciate the info.. Raymo, what you said is (optimistically) more hopeful than the other alternative.. If the hardware needs to be replaced or modified, well, then, that's a bigger hill to climb than just uploading new improved software with all those "...

    Now Approved: Nearly 600 Aircraft

Thanks! That answers my question, (but raises another!) When you say "... you have to do a lot of continuous checking of your device to make sure it's functioning correctly, gives warning if something is not working correctly, and is fault tolerant .." , Do you mean that Dynon has to do that in...

I knew that... My bad - perhaps I asked the wrong question.. The "Built-in Navigator" is the GPS, right? WHY is the Dynon GPS VFR only? It is WAAS capable. What else would it need? Is it only a bureaucratic thing?

Now that Skyview HDX is certified, how about installations in Experimental aircraft like Long EZs or others? What needs to be done to legally fly IFR approaches with the Skyview HDX in non-certified aircraft?

    Second GPS? Bearing pointer 2?

Now that Skyview HDX has been certified, Can I legally fly an IFR approach with it ? (I have the WAAS enabled GPS and 2020 Transponder )

    Version 16 schedule update ?

@David Brown, Thanks so much for the comments from someone on the inside (in the know)! It's the uncertainty that creates angst! I especially like the phrase "...about to unfold... ". Keep up the good work.

    Skyview Wish List

Yes, Actually, I am waiting for Ver 16 so as to avoid having to build the OnSpeed Gen 2 System myself... If Ver 16 included the ability to configure an equivilent tone schedule, I could simply use the built in capability instead of building the OnSpeed Gen 2 system.

    Version 16 schedule update ?

Thanks for your reply airguy... Some information, no matter how meager, is still way better than complete silence on the issue. Your reply at least gives me a clue as to what is going on ...

Yes, the A/P disconnect should still function normally. This just disables the Skyview system from issuing a CAUTION warning if the wires to the button are severed. Too large of a resistor ( too many ohms) would also cause this CAUTION, as it looks like the wires are broken. You could test this...

    Skyview Wish List

I would like the configuration screen to allow the user to optionally specify another tone schedule for the aural AOA tone. Just like the config settings allow for specifying various bands for the on-screen engine sensor displays. for example, 1. Below x% of stall: Silent (No-tone) 2. Between...

    Version 16 schedule update ?

With the obvious caveat that it's not done until it's done, it would be extremely useful to have some regular or intermittent updates on the release schedule for HDX version 16. Perhaps a short blurb on where you are in the software development cycle might be added as a thread on a discussion...

    "CAUTION",....."CAUTION",......"CAUTION", ........

I took my Autopilot disconnect button apart and reassembled it with a new resistor, and I still have the problem. To be clear, any time the autopilot is engaged, and the Autopilot is configured to "Detect Broken A/P Disconnect circuit", I get the continuous CAUTION warnings. If I disable that...

Assign existing waypoint to Bearing Pointer[s]?

Yes I thought about the SL30... But I am very limited in Panel space. (Long EZ), and the SL30, even used, is in the thousands$...

Assign existing waypoint to Bearing Pointer[s]?

dloyd, Yes, Direct to a waypoint will cause BOTH bearing [pointers to point to that waypoint and the little pop up box to indicate bearing and range to the Direct Waypoint. But if you only have one GPS Navigator, and you have a flight plan route in Skyview, then going Direct to another defined...

Assign existing waypoint to Bearing Pointer[s]?

My CAP unit aircraft has the Garmin G-1000. But I use my own aircraft with HDX when I fly for local Sheriff Air Group. I was just describing possible use for this functionality, But the G-1000 is the same way. In G-1000, you cannot specify a separate "target" or waypoint for the G-1000 Bearing...

Assign existing waypoint to Bearing Pointer[s]?

But as one example I fly for the Civil Air Patrol, and I volunteer for local county Sheriff Search and Rescue group. We could use this functionality when we are flying a defined search pattern over the ground, but need to rapidly establish situation awareness about a position communicated to us...

Assign existing waypoint to Bearing Pointer[s]?

I confess I am relatively new to new glass cockpit avionics. I learned in the USAF using ADI/HSI with multiple bearing pointers and used the bearing pointer and DME for many functions. I may be missing it only because I have not yet become comfortable performing the same tasks using the new...

Assign existing waypoint to Bearing Pointer[s]?

You do not understand. The Bearing Pointer does NOT point to the GPS satellite when it's assigned to SkyView and you are on a active flight plan. No, it points to the destination of the current leg of the flight plan, i.e., a Waypoint. I am just suggesting that the system software be modified...
