    Is AOA Real?

Those folks https://www.flyonspeed.org/ put together a nice solution, but it requires a free COM port, a luxury I can't afford That's why I'm complaining about the lack of a comprehensive AOA functionality in HDX here

    Is AOA Real?

I would challenge you on the assumption that flap deflection doesn't significantly change the critical AOA Look here: https://www.n91cz.net/AOA/AoA_Article_Web.pdf

    Is AOA Real?

The AOA future that we use in HDX is at best half cooked. No awareness of flap position, no "on the speed" indication whatsoever. Advanced displays use a much sophisticated AOA algorithm and I very much wonder why Dynon would not implement it in HDX.

    Virtual-DME with MGL N16

Happy to hear you made it! As the N16 is concerned my only complaint is that it doesn’t dim enough at night.

Here is my setup No V16

    Virtual-DME with MGL N16

select VOR station on the info page on HDX, press "send to nav" button N16 receives the standby frequency on the N16 press the right button, and you are tuned to the station

    Virtual-DME with MGL N16

I don't HDX sends the frequency over the Garmin protocol to N16

    Virtual-DME with MGL N16

Did have a look at your photo. Looks like N16 does not communicate with HDX over the com port. Or does it? I would start from there. Once you establish two way connection between the two boxes all will be well. and BTW I'm very happy with the N16, works flawlessly

    EMS MAP sensor

What type of sensor / device is Dynon using as EMS MAP sensor? Mine has failed at just 150 hours, or so it seems. The MAP widget is crossed. Checked the connector, didn’t notice any physical damage. Looks like I need to get a new one.

    lidar based altimeter

The goal is to improve situational awareness during night landings or in marginal weather. The Lidar SF11 device suggested by Marc would be a perfect fit, especially because, as I understand it would be possible to connect it directly to EMS to get AGL data into Dynon @Marc_J._Zeitlin did you...

    Virtual-DME with MGL N16

from pilot user guide, page 4-2: "When a NAV radio decodes the identifier for a frequency, SkyView displays it in the HSI info area and tries to match the identifier to the same one in its aviation database. When it finds a match, it displays Virtual-DME (non-certified) distance in magenta' here...

    lidar based altimeter

I'm thinking about building a lidar based altimeter, something similar to this thing but integrated with HDX, ideally showing the AGL as a widget on screen. The one solution that comes to mind would be to convert digital output of lidar sensor into analogue and connect it to EMS, calibrate that...

    Dynon intercom and AvMike

Anybody here using the Leosounds AvMike with Dynon intercom? I've got a fairly recent setup with Dynon radio and intercom. All was good till I purchased a Bose headset with AvMike microphone. For whatever reason the new headset is incompatible with Dynon intercom. It would make strange biping...

    Airmate data on Dynon HDX

AFAIK Airmate provides geo referenced VFR and IFR plates while pocketfms VFR only. Might or might not be relevant for you. I'm happy that we have the choice. In any case, both providers grab taxpayers founded data from AIP and sell it to us as a database.

    Smart Glide similar solution

from the above linked article: "At that point, a touch of the Smart Glide button still activates the GFC autopilot in IAS mode for the stored glide speed while descending straight ahead" if the "smart glide" does not take into account wind speed and direction to correct the best glide IAS, then...

    12V On/Off Inputs

let's say I'm connecting the Dynon heated pitot probe. Do I understand correctly that the pitot status white wire should be connected to EMS via a 10k resistor?

remote NAV radio for SkyView HDX

There is another thread on this subject here MGL N16 is a sensible solution and it integrates nicely with SV over Garmin protocol. While not a "remote" radio as it needs a Vega head to function properly I can honestly recommend it. It's cheap and it does what it's supposed to do. Of course I...

    Smart Glide similar solution

The smart glide feature is by no means innovative. It's been implemented a long time ago in open-source gliding computer xc-soar as "task abort" flying mode. In this mode, xc-soar shows the available landing sites which are within gliding distance taking into account terrain, wind, wing-loading...

    Dynon NAV/COMM???

How about adding native support for MGL N16 radio? The N16 hardware looks fine, the price is reasonable. Software integration with SV is in my opinion a problem, as the integration relies on a protocol that both Dynon and MGL reverse engineered As I understand MGL open sourced "API" for their...
