Have been searching to find how to delete the old data base uploads from the USB.
BTW, I'm not a computer nerd
How do I delete the old data before (or after) I download the newest update?
I guess I'm missing something super simple.
Thanks

Which database are you referring to? The aviation and obstacle database? For these, when a new database is loaded from USB, it (the new release) simply overwrites the old databases, so there is no action required.

^^ That. If the new database comes from the same source as the old one, it will simply overwrite the old files with the new ones. If you really want to be sure the thumb drive is 'pure', you can format it before use. Just make sure to use the FAT32 file system when formatting.

Whenever I download a new chart update cycle it loads in line with the last few chart updates
When I go to upload them into the Dynon I have to make sure to select the correct cycle into the HDX
The old chart updates never leave the USB
I have 6 0r 7 cycles now loaded on the USB

Insert the USB back into your computer. Click on that USB on your screen and open it. Then click on the first file that is old and then file delete. There are several ways to delete the file. You could right hand click it and choose delete or move to trash, etc. Repeat for any other old files. There’s no doubt you have the same old files on your computer in a file folder called downloads. Go to that download folder and do the same. Have fun😊

Apparently you're talking about the Dynon navdata database.

Of *course* a new file *with a different name* is not going to delete some other file with a different name. Just delete the old files the same way you delete ANY files on ANY drive on your computer.

True, the obstacle and aviation are never erased by the Dynon system, if you want to remove the old databases then you would have to delete them manually from the UBS drive, possibly before downloading the new databases onto the USB drive.
And yes, that requires that you pick the latest database to be loaded into the Dynon. This may not be desirable if the new databases don't load correctly onto the Dynon then such old databases allow you to go back to the older database to used to work.

Thanks WenEng! I can see that having one "old" data base resident each time might be advantageous
but not half a dozen. Also I would think that at some time the USB may hit a capacity limit
As I said I don't spend much time messing around with "screens" as all the younger people do.
I can delete emails but I've never deleted from a USB. Thanks again i'll take another look at it on the next
update cycle
