DUMB QUESTION about data bases (Seattle AVionics)

Have been searching to find how to delete the old data base uploads from the USB.
BTW, I'm not a computer nerd
How do I delete the old data before (or after) I download the newest update?
I guess I'm missing something super simple.
Thanks

Which database are you referring to? The aviation and obstacle database? For these, when a new database is loaded from USB, it (the new release) simply overwrites the old databases, so there is no action required.

^^ That. If the new database comes from the same source as the old one, it will simply overwrite the old files with the new ones. If you really want to be sure the thumb drive is 'pure', you can format it before use. Just make sure to use the FAT32 file system when formatting.

Whenever I download a new chart update cycle it loads in line with the last few chart updates
When I go to upload them into the Dynon I have to make sure to select the correct cycle into the HDX
The old chart updates never leave the USB
I have 6 0r 7 cycles now loaded on the USB

Insert the USB back into your computer. Click on that USB on your screen and open it. Then click on the first file that is old and then file delete. There are several ways to delete the file. You could right hand click it and choose delete or move to trash, etc. Repeat for any other old files. There’s no doubt you have the same old files on your computer in a file folder called downloads. Go to that download folder and do the same. Have fun😊

Apparently you're talking about the Dynon navdata database.

Of *course* a new file *with a different name* is not going to delete some other file with a different name. Just delete the old files the same way you delete ANY files on ANY drive on your computer.

True, the obstacle and aviation are never erased by the Dynon system, if you want to remove the old databases then you would have to delete them manually from the UBS drive, possibly before downloading the new databases onto the USB drive.
And yes, that requires that you pick the latest database to be loaded into the Dynon. This may not be desirable if the new databases don't load correctly onto the Dynon then such old databases allow you to go back to the older database to used to work.

Thanks WenEng! I can see that having one "old" data base resident each time might be advantageous
but not half a dozen. Also I would think that at some time the USB may hit a capacity limit
As I said I don't spend much time messing around with "screens" as all the younger people do.
I can delete emails but I've never deleted from a USB. Thanks again i'll take another look at it on the next
update cycle

I've just had my final inspection on my experimental and setting up my Dynon HDX. I live in Canada and spend the winters in Phoenix so need data base for both countries - I've always flown with Garman and I'am not familiar with Dynon.

Any suggestions on which provider I should use for the Canadian data base and/or any other suggestions would be appreciated (I am not tech savy and finding this a little daunting).
Thx

I'm using Seattle Avionics data and find it OK to use even for a Luddite. You will need the laptop app Seattle Avionics Chart Manager on your laptop then insert the correct type USB stick and select the charts you want to load and transfer to your Dynon.
You will need (if you haven't done it yet) to install a USB input slot in your panel dedicated to only Dynon data transfers and NOT for powering any USB device. Check the Dynon wiring manual.

I've never looked into Canadian charts so I can't comment on those.

Next nav data upload is is coming so I'll be trying to delete the old stuff- waiting for the "smoke" when I push the wrong button.

Research shows 2 suppliers of Canadian charts for Dynon systems
Seattle Avionics an PocketFMS
For simplicity I would stick with Seattle for both so the process remains the same
to update both areas.

Which data base are you referring to? Terrain and obstacles or Navigation data
The base map is loaded upon installation but the navigation data that changes every few weeks
is loaded every cycle (airport freq changes, airport data , nav changes etc)
Nothing on Dynon to my knowledge is uploaded or updated via internet
The internet is used to "update' the USB stick that is used to transfer that updated data to the Dynon

Laptop updates the USB stick and th USB stick is used to update the Dynon via instrument panel USB slot.

I thought Dynon had it's own American DB installed on every installation with updates via internet every 28 days?
I hesitate to ask this, but...did you read the manual and look at the database information available at Dynon's website?

It's all explained in there.

I'm pretty sure Seattle Avionics doesn't HAVE the full set of Canadian charts. They apparently have "Southern Canada" scanned charts (VFR, IFR), but I don't know about airport diagrams and approach plates.

In any case, this should all be in the manual.

The Seattle Avionic scanned charts are nice, however their chart manager software is dated and has crashed on me in the past. To that end, I'm tempted to try the Airmate version in the future; same price (actually half the price for U.S only), maybe the software is better for performing USB stick updates?

Search the forum for "airmate". That has been discussed here a good bit.
