Need some help on the configuration for the SV-ARINC-429 so that I can select the GNS 430W are the HSI source in my Dynon Skyview system.

Wiring connection is done as indicated by Fig. 153 in the Installation and Config. Serial RX (SV-ARINC-429 DB25 Pin 3) is connected to GNS 430W P4001 Pin 58 (GPS RS 232 Out 2)

Garmin Settings as indicated on 12-7 of the Skyview System Installation Guide - Rev. Z.

Please provide me what the Skyview Settings should be or provide me some examples.

Here is the equipment that I have connected.
Garmin GNS 430W
Garmin 327 Transponder, connected to Chan 1 of the 430
Glide Slope/VOR
10" Dynon Skyview with Roll and Pitch Auto Pilot
Dynon Skyview Engine Monitor

I am not able to select different HSI. Unable to select the Garmin as the HSI.

Thank you and Happy New Year.

I am having a similar issue, I suspect the software I have on my Garmin is too old to handle this task and needs to be updated. Can anyone tell me what version of software is needed for the 430W to feed data to the ARINC and then to the Skyview?

Can you confirm you have the Dynon EFIS set to Aviation?

Also, some things in the EFIS require you to input a flight plan (direct-to someplace) to allow certain functions. I don't recall if the HSI is one.

The Garmin GNS 430W "Main RS232 Config" is set to "Aviation". Is there an Aviation setting on the Dynon and if so how do I get to this setting?

I re-read the instructions on pages 12-7 and 12-8 and it seems the Aviation setting is, indeed, on the Garmin side rather than the Dynon.

Para 12-8 has all the Dynon side settings, though I am sure you've triple checked those by now. Does your 430W have version 5.x installed? I believe it is needed but hopefully someone from Dynon will chime in soon.

We'll start with the basics.  Here's what matters:

Wiring connection is done as indicated by Fig. 153 in the Installation and Config.  Serial RX (SV-ARINC-429 DB25 Pin 3) is connected to GNS 430W P4001 Pin 58 (GPS RS 232 Out 2)

Garmin Settings as indicated on 12-7 of the Skyview System Installation Guide - Rev. Z.
...

Here is the equipment that I have connected.
Garmin GNS 430W
...
10" Dynon Skyview

(None of the other equipment is relevant here, and presumably you have the SV-ARINC-429 box :) ).

and

The Garmin GNS 430W "Main RS232 Config" is set to "Aviation".

First, did you set the Garmin "Main RS232 Config" to "Aviation" for Channel 2 out?

Is this a newly installed SV-ARINC-429 and if so, does it show up on your system list of resources in SV when you look at the Network Status page?

(Did you do this:

Remember to configure the network as described in the Network Setup and Status section after connecting all modules to a display.

p. 12-2)

I suspect it would have to be veeeerrrrry old software to not work...hasn't "Aviation" format output been out and stable for many, many, many years now?

The first two places I'd look is under the network status, as Steve W. says. Is the SV-ARCINC-429 showing up there?

Next, under SETUP MENU > SYSTEM SETUP > SV-ARINC-429, is everything set there? Are you seeing the labels received counter incrementing?

The SV-ARINC-429 has been installed for a coupe of years, but this is the first time that I am trying to use it and configure it. It does show up and I can go to SETUP MENU > System Setup > SV-ARINC-429.

And yes, I am seeing the labels received counter incrementing.

What are the INPUT 1 and INPUT 2 lines set to? And when toggle through the HSI sources using PFD > NAVSRC, what do you see on the HSI and the info area next to it?

I am assuming that Input 1 and Input 2 are In 1 and In 2 under Garmin "Main ARINC 429 Config"

In 1: High | EFIS ? Airdata
In 2: High | OFF
Out: High | GAMA 429
SDI: Common
VNAV: Enable Labels

This may seem like a dumb question, but...do you have a flight plan or direct to active, and a GPS position acquired, in the 430W? The HSI isn't going to show any course deviation (or course) if none is set up in the 430W and you have it selected...

Good dump question. Since I have been testing this in my hangar, I do not have a flight plan or direct to loaded. I will load a flight plan and test it out. Thank you.

And make sure the 430 has a position fix, or it likely won't work, either.

I don't know why this didn't occur to me before...when you power up the 430W, just leave it on the Self-Test page and it should be sending test Nav data to the ARINC/SV...you should see something like a 135 degree course, half up/half left on the CDI, the map page will show something like GARMN as the next waypoint, etc.

It's all spelled out in the manual for the 430W, but if you just do that (don't hit OK or whatever on the test page) and leave it that way, you should be able to diagnose your problem.

ETA - here is the complete set from the Installation manual. You don't need to worry about all of these, as some aren't applicable, but this should help you determine that the 430 is talking to the ARINC box and the ARINC box is sending the data on to SV. I've bolded some of the things you should see on the PFD and MAP pages.

Parameter Self-Test Value
(The bold items here are the ones you should see on the PFD/HSI page):

Course Deviation Half-scale left deviation, TO indication, flag pulled
Glideslope/Vert. Deviation Half-scale up deviation, flag pulled
Annunciators All On
Bearing to Waypoint (RMI) 135°
Selected Course (OBS) 400W Series unit displays the OBS value (149.5° if interfaced to an HSI with driven course pointer).
Desired Track 149.5° (Displayed as 150°)

Items below are not displayed on the INSTRUMENT PANEL SELF-TEST page
(Bold items here are the ones you should see on the Map page)

Distance to Go 10.0 nautical miles
Time to Go 4 minutes
Active Waypoint “GARMN”
Groundspeed 150 knots
Present Position N 39°04.05’, W 94°53.86’
Waypoint Alert Active
Phase of Flight En Route
Message Alert Active
Leg/OBS Mode Leg Mode
GPS Integrity Invalid
Roll Steering (if applicable) Flight Director commands 0° bank (level flight) for 5 seconds; commands increasing right bank at 1°/second for 5 seconds; commands 5° right bank for 5 seconds; commands decreasing right bank at 1°/second for 5 seconds, until command is 0° bank again. This cycle repeats continuously.

I will try this within a couple of days. I now live in NC and the temps have been close to zero degrees and it is freezing in my hangar.

Will update status as soon as I try this. Appreciate all the help.
