    AP-Panel to trim coolie hat

I have the same setup and ground my PTT in common as you described, no issues in almost 1800 hours. I'm running the PMA5000EX intercom.

    A/P disappeared

Ahh - ok, the external comm and transponder won't show up on the top bar of the Dynon, that is just for Skyview devices. No help there, I'm afraid.

    A/P disappeared

If you have power to the comm and transponder, they should show up there. If all those things are good then you've either got a bad harness connection somewhere, or you've lost a main feed to the HDX from a hub. Run your configuration routine again and see if you can "see" the comm or...

    A/P disappeared

Just double checking here - you know you have good power AND ground to the servos? If you lost a ground connection it would act just like a lost power connection, even though you would still show 12 volts on a meter at the servo and assume you have good power. Ask me how I know...

    A/P disappeared

The servos communicate through the two datapairs to the HDX. If you have verified power is good, and the servos check out good, then your most likely culprit is a loose DB9 connection somewhere between the servos and the main network. Start chasing your wiring bundle from the servo locations all...

    Uncommanded Autopilot Engagement

So, yeah... We are back to RT(F)M. Sorry you got your panties in a wad about that, I may be guilty of being both old AND cranky, but I have grown weary of people not even making the first attempt at solving their own problems before asking obvious questions. Not saying you did that, just...

    Uncommanded Autopilot Engagement

If the AP disconnect switch is held down continuously (or the short circuit makes connection continuously) for 2 seconds, then the AP engages. Any additional contact of that circuit then disconnects the AP. RTFM - section 8 of the users guide.

a couple questions re IFR approaches

As Marc said, currently no. I have dual screens and run the approach plate on one screen and traffic on the other, just keep glancing back and forth as part of my scan. One would think that normally, in actual IMC, another "VFR, not talking to him" aircraft would not be part of the traffic...

Only need AOA/Pitot to pitot tube?

And power, if you want a heated pitot.

    Uncommanded Autopilot Engagement

See the attached wiring diagram here. NOTE - this is for the experimental version, not the certified, but the AP disconnect function is, to my knowledge, identical. You could disconnect one servo at a time and see if you can eliminate the "PRESSED" status on the AP Disconnect to give you an...

    Using Seattle Avionics charts

A little RTFM goes a long way - there are a lot of cool features you can find that way.

    Uncommanded Autopilot Engagement

You've got a short in your AP disconnect wiring to ground somewhere.

    Using Seattle Avionics charts

On the screen push the "info" button, make sure the correct airport of interest is displayed, then press "PLT" for plates and you should get a menu of the available plates (ground maps plus approaches/departures) for that airport. If that does not appear then yes you have a file issue on the...

    Emus

To each their own, but what I did was to install the backup battery on the Dynon, I boot the Dynon on the backup battery immediately upon entering the cockpit. By the time I'm done with seatbelts etc and ready to crank, it's up and showing all the engine parameters for start - WITHOUT the...

    Emus

Please don't connect anything direct to the battery, take it through a fuse or breaker somewhere... But more to your point - I hung that on my avionics power buss, so it comes alive along with everything else when I engage that buss (separate from the master).

    Alternator / Battery?

What was the VPX fault? If it's overvoltage, Carl is right, there is only one source for that, it's the regulator or the "sense" wire feeding bus voltage sensing to the regulator.

    Odd OAT readings.

Agreed. You are getting engine heat under the belly of the plane. The ideal spot would be on the bottom of the wing, outside the propwash, like around the pitot tube area.

Standby Network Error - Data 2 Pair (Pins 4 and 8)

Correct. All of the 9-pin DSUB connectors on the Dynon hardware are equivalent. Any device from Dynon that has multiple 9-pin DSUB connectors can have the cabling swapped between them, they don't care.

    Servo harness routing

The two data pairs are twisted to avoid interference - if you make your own cables (I did) then buy the twisted-pair conductors from Stein and use them. As far as picking up or emitting interference, I've noticed none in my 1800 hours.

    Emergency glide test findings

Dynon has already stated that the Classic/Touch software updates are sunsetted. They are only moving forward with the HDX series.
