If the backup switch is working okay (which connects EMS earth direct to airframe earth) then it sounds like an earthing problem with your start switch.

Have you tried recalibrating the magnetometer? It's an easy thing to try if you haven't already done so and may a lucky break.

We did it recently on my aircraft but it does not seem to work. I plug exactly the same dongle into the D37 USB port and on the back of the HDX but it'll read the one on the back of the unit but not the D37. Maybe they changed the software when the option was removed.

Oh, now that I like :) Admittedly that's what my MGL autopilot does (one press to engage, one to disengage) but I'll be happy if that can all be done using one button with the Dynon system. Thanks very much for pointing that one out to me 👍
