    HDX Voltage display

The Planepower alternators have a pretty poor reputation in the homebuilt world. A quick look around Vans Airforce will show you lots of failures at 100-200 hours. The B&C starters and alternators will generally run to engine overhaul (2,000-2,500 hours) without any problems. They cost more and...

    HDX Skyview power circuit

I would be inclined to put the screens on separate circuits. Putting both on the same circuit risks losing both at the same time.

    HDX Voltage display

With the engine running and the alternator operational 14.5 volts would be normal. 14.8 is barely a little high. The high voltage alert can be changed in the software. I am curious what engine/alternator you have and what battery you are running. A lot of the external voltage regulators can be...

    HDX trade up

You can update the Seattle Avionics charts wirelessly, but if you do the whole US or more it takes too long. I just update the USB sticks at home and swap USB stick at the hanger. It is far easier to run a USB extension cord and port to the panel than getting to the back of the unit...

    Shunt breakage

The VPX view covers my moving map so I don’t have it in front of me most of the time. The EarthX batteries are not lithium ion. They are lithium iron. I would not put a lithium ion battery in an aircraft. They catch on fire occasionally. The amp meter is not as important as the volt meter but I...

    Shunt breakage

I don’t entirely agree. My amp meter (Dynon EMS) measures alternator output, either the main or the standby. I also have a voltmeter built into my Dynon EMS. Besides that my Vertical Power Pro shows me the load on every circuit in real time and amps in or out of the battery. I have an EarthX...

    Splicing Serial Connections

I have a 3 screen Dynon panel. I used all 5 serial ports. It was not that difficult to build the harness. I installed everything myself using the Dynon premade harnesses. Since the wire colors were already coded to the pins it was pretty easy.

    Dynon Answering the Phone

Well they finally called back at nearly 1030am. No great news though. There are no replacement parts available and turn around time with shipping is likely to be closer to 2 weeks than a week.

    Dynon Answering the Phone

Apparently the employees at Dynon no longer answer the phone. I have probably called 200 times to tech support and sales this morning and I never get through. I left messages at 8:00am on both lines and no one has called me back and it is 10:00am. I really need some help with some equipment...

    Splicing Serial Connections

I have 3 Dynon EFIS displays and I used all 5 serial ports. That is a lot of extra bulk behind the instrument panel. I think bare crimp connectors and shrink tube is a far better solution. There is also the 5 volt wire from the EMS that I had to send to 5 places.

Flying a Garmin 496 Route on Autopilot

CWS disconnects the autopilot while it is held down. There is no altitude hold.

    Refine Electric Trim

Trim speed can be varied based on indicated airspeed. I set my pitch trim to 40% speed when I exceed 120 knots indicated on my RV10. This can be done through a Vertical Power box or the auto pilot control head. There are also some after market speed controllers, but they will reduce trim speed...

    Splicing Serial Connections

It is a pain. I have a 3 screen Dynon panel. I used all 5 serial ports. I used solder and shrink tube to build the harness. I generally don’t like soldering, but any other method was going to create a lot of bulk. All the wiring with the connections is throughly secured to prevent fatigue at the...

    Skyview HDX data recording

Your question is answered below, but Savvy Aviation can analyze your engine data far better than you will ever be able to.

    Chart upgrade

I hav I have heard a lot about this issue, but never experienced it myself. I have 3 Dynon HDX screens to update so I have 6 USB 32GB sticks and rotate them. I take some long trips so I put everything on them from Southern Canada to Nicaragua. I have a fast internet connection at home and my...

    Chart upgrade

I have the Seattle Avionics charts. Here is what I can tell you. You can change from the Dynon charts to a VFR Sectional, to an IFR Low chart or an IFR High chart with a few button pushes. When I fly IFR I usually have the IFR Low chart displayed. You can display all the terminal charts over...

    Audio warnings

I am guessing that you must have an audio panel. The Dynon must be wired into the audio panel on an unswitched input, one that you can’t select on or off. Has that been done? What model of audio panel do you have. That would be helpful. The Dynon also has a volume control in the software. If...

    Dynon and Avidyne IFD

I agree. I have two HDX1100 set up as PFD’s and an 800 for engine instruments/everything else.

    Dynon and Avidyne IFD

I have no idea what the rest of your cockpit looks like. If you are using the Skyview screen(s) the Dynon ADSB receiver works great, but as far as I know you can’t display their ADSB on another device. I have 3 Skyview screens in my RV 10 and a Garmin GTN650. The Garmin screen is too small to...

    Shunt breakage

For what it is worth, I am based in Las Vegas and I fly with ambient temperatures over 100F and I have seen no sign of a problem with my Delrin base for my shunt. Phenolic material will take higher temperatures, but that does not seem to matter.
