Garmin 696 vs GDU 370/375 output differences

Thanks for the heads up on this one. I had a GDU370 planned for the empty spot in my panel. I'll stick with the GPS495 for now. I guess one less sale of a GDU370 won't make much difference to Garmin, but their rating dropped a notch in my books.

Should Power pins have circuit protection?

As noted on this forum, you run the risk of loosing your primary flight display by drawing unessassary power from it. Each piece of equipment (other than components supplied by the SV network and the SV-GPS-250) should have their own power supply from the main/avionics bus and fuse/breaker...

What does a Garmin X96 add to SkyView?

I have the GPS495 connected to both my Skyview and my iCOM radio. For the radio, the entire Jeppesen nav com database in the GPS495 is available on the recall button on the radio. For the Skyview it adds routing, flight plan recording, weight and balance, etc. It's a great complement to the...

    Tach Install w/ Resistors

I connected to the toggle switches for the mags, but I butt spliced wires directly to the resistors and crimped a ring terminal on the other end. I shrink wrapped the whole thing to insulate it. The ring terminal was then connected to the same lead on the toggle switch as the p-lead from the...

Jeppesen Partnership and World Aviation Databases

Re: Jeppesen Partnership and World Aviation Databa The garmin site does say Jeppesen NavData. https://fly.garmin.com/fly-garmin/aviation_database_cycles.jsp I can't believe that Garmin enhances the Jeppesen nav data. If Garmin had better data why use Jeppesen. I do know it's not perfect as I...

    New Skyview Transponder and Traffic

PCAS doesn't work everywhere. My interpretation, correct me if Im off base. Transponders are just radios that respond when triggered by ground based or airborne radar. If you are too far or too low for ground based radar to see you, but your transponder flashes, then you have an airplane...

PIREP of my new SV/Autopilot + VIDEO FOOTAGE!

Nice layout of the panel. Would be nice to see the Skyview a little closer in the video. A couple of attempts on my part. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0o0rgQoqL0M http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_0uV_IpKso

    Normal Voltage for 12V System

Thanks guys I think I will turn down the regulator to 14V and adjust the Skyview ranges as suggested. I thought that maybe the Skyview ranges were standard.

    Normal Voltage for 12V System

My voltage regulator was set at +/-14.6V at the factory and it reads 14.4V. This is in the yellow range (13V-14.6V) on the Skyview display. I spoke with another homebuilt and his reads in the top 14V range. My old analog gauge green range was 12.5V-14V and it was above 14V when running. The...

    Future Improvements / Audio

I connected the audio from the GPS495 to my intercomm. After a day flying in the Canadian Rockies I shut it off as I was tired of the constant "Terrain ahead - pull up, pull up!" warnings. Or, just try landing on a strip not in the navigation database. The "pull up, pull up!" warnings start to...

    New SkyView Products at Oshkosh

WAAS is probably not all that important as it only improves the precision from ten metres to a couple of metres when we are looking for 100s of metres clearance. More important are methods that verify the accuracy of GPS through fault detection (and exclusion). You want ADS-B to accurately...

    SkyView in Canadian Rockies

I had the opportunity to fly in the Canadian Rockies last week. Here are some pictures of the Skyview over Kelowna and just out of Revelstoke. Great product Dynon!

    ADAHRS and altitude encoding

The GTX327 should show pressure altitude as soon as the SV boots up or shortly after it boots. The SV should show the altitude and set on 29.92 will agree with the pressure altitude shown on the GTX427. One thing to check is the baud rate on both systems. Also both have the capability to show...

    Dynon in Cessna 140

In Canada you can move the plane to user maintenance in which case it's basically an experimental (homebuilt in Canada). You have to add an X to all the serial numbers so that the parts aren't used again in certified planes and placard it as an experimental. There are a couple around here...

    SkyView 2.5 Released!

I agree with Dynon in not cluttering the display with *everything*. The USB ports on the back and the one in the harness allow the user to mount it anywhere. I had the manuals when I ordered so I designed a spot on the panel for the USB plug. BTW Dynon. Great new features in the upgrade. I...

    skyview dirty rf ...testing... resolved.

I've been up a few times since I installed the filters and the radio is still very quiet (iCOM 210). I had a couple of frequencies that had a lot of backgound noise when I first installed the filters, much to my dismay, but I ajusted the squelch to get rid of the noise. In Canada we use 123.2...
