    Carbon Fiber and Avionics

I deal with Carbon Fiber structures on a regular basis. When it comes to electrical characteristics CF is the worst of all worlds. It is conductive enough to block RF but not enough to be good for lightning or as a ground path or ground plane. On modern airframes CF is usually overlaid with a...

    DC SFRA

Didn't know that- that is exactly the feature I was thinking would help. Dynon rules!!

    DC SFRA

Thanks for the response and it does clear this up for me. It is interesting that on the 27th shot, I had been flying in the local area for over 30 minutes and the ADS B ground station is at Frederick airport- so I was definitely within range for the entire time. It does make sense though...

    "Flight" Timers

BY FAA part 1 definitions- the time from takeoff to landing is "time in service" which is what is required to be recorded for maintenance. "Flight time" is what we as pilots log and is as ICAO defines it. A bit confusing given the Dynon application of terms. Dan

    DC SFRA

Hoping to pose a specific question resulting from my July 27 post (with screenshot) and August 21 post (with screenshot). They are of the same airspace, but you will notice that the SFRA is depicted differently between the two. In the July 27 post, the SFRA and FRZ are depicted by the orange...

    DC SFRA

I have to love the screen shot capability. If you look at my previous post, 2:00 from the airplane about 8 miles out is P40- Camp David, another shoot first ask questions later area. It is somewhat obscured by the 60NM ring being shaded. Dan

    DC SFRA

The attached screen shot is of the DC SFRA which is quite different from the last screen shot  submitted on July 27, right after loading the TFR light file.  You will notice that in this file, the SFRA 60nm limits (I now believe to be the speed limit ring) colored, including the entire SFRA just...

    Altitude voice announcements

I do have a Garmin 495 connected to audio- but never though about that being the 500 ft alert. Now I'll have to check

    Altitude voice announcements

I am not sure if this is the same thing, but I get a 500 ft call out on approach at 500 ft above the airport elevation.  I haven't investigated if this can be set to another height but it is handy also.

    DC SFRA

I uploaded the TFR light file and flew today.  Some interesting things happened.  The attached screenshot shows the SFRA, FRZ depiction and some TFR's inside the SFRA.  The SFRA and FRZ are depicted by the red ticked lines, while the TFR's are depicted as lightly shaded, yet quite visible. ...

    DC SFRA

I spent some time searching the manuals and am not sure how to upload the .dfg file. Can you please elaborate?

    DC SFRA

Thanks for the multiple shots. It would be my opinion that the TFR Active light version would work the best and I will try that. This is about the same transparency that I use on my Garmin Pilot on the Ipad. I'll let you know next week how this works. Dan

    Airport Identifiers

Here it is right from the FAA website An international location indicator is a four-letter code used in international telecommunications. The location indicator for airports in the contiguous United States is the three-letter identifier preceded by [ch65533]K[ch65533]. For other non-contiguous...

    Airport Identifiers

'K' is one of the internation prefixes assigned to the US. All radio stations in the US begin with either a W, A, N, or K. With respect to the databases, K is used when the airport identifier is all letters. A three letter identifier without the K is a navaid. If the identifier has any...

    DC SFRA

I" ll get some screen shots of what we see if that helps. I think that the other issue that was brought up is the FRZ which is well inside the SFRA and requires the pilot to have their name on a cleared list to fly inside. Even though you can get cleared into the SFRA, the FRZ may be off...

    DC SFRA

I have just started flying my Skyview system and am based near the SFRA (KFDK) I agree that the 60nm ring is a problem. The first problem is the lack of ability to distinguish the speed limited ring from the actual SFRA restricted airspace. The second problem comes when looking at ADS-B...

ADAHRS fail on upgrade to 5.1

Your suggestion solved the problem. Here is what I did: Disconnected both ADAHRS connectors. Powered up Skyview system (both displays) Performed a network configuration which of course removed the ADAHRS from the connected component list. Powered down Skyview. Reconnected both ADAHRS Powered...

ADAHRS fail on upgrade to 5.1

I am just completing my SV installation which includes 2 displays and 2 ADAHRS. On initial startup, the left display was at version 3.1 and the right display was at version 4. I used the single file to upgrade to version 5.1 on the right display, before realizing the left display was at 3.1...
