22g wire would be fine. You can put the ring terminal under the DB-9 connector screw on the intercom. As a general rule, you want all your audio related grounds going to one point, then from that point to the aircraft ground, which should attach to the battery ground.

If the radio uses the Garmin SL30 protocol, it should work fine. That would depend on the XCOM documentation.

Just install an avionics master switch to control both the EFIS and XPNDR (and radios). You would not want the display to control XPNDR power in a case where the EFIS failed or needed to be powered off during flight to save the main battery if the alternator failed.

Thanks, John. I didn't realize your were talking about the master contactor/relay diode. Most come with them installed (as did mine) so it didn't trigger in my head. Turning off the HDx will not turn off the XPNDR, to my knowledge, but you could pull the breaker prior to starting until the diode...

John, Can you point me to the area of the manual that requires a diode? From my experience, they (Schottky diodes) are only used to separate dual electrical systems, which is not part of the Dynon installation documentation.

Power spikes are not a problem for modern avionics. Modern is pretty much anything since 2000ish. No need to turn anything off for engine start or shutdown. Do take advantage of the Dynon EMS for engine monitoring. The audible warnings are fantastic and let you know when something is wrong...

Per prior posts from Dynon, there is no trade-in program. If there were, I'd take advantage of it too. I'll likely just sell my two 1000T screens to the highest bidder and do the upgrade that way.

Suggest calling Dynon support for assistance. If you can borrow an antenna from someone else to test, that might help determine root cause. Also, confirm settings are correct in the serial connection config.

I, and most others, use Hobbs time for flight time.

Swap the probe with the #2 cylinder and see if the problem moves. If it does, it is a problem with the probe or wiring. If it remains in the #4 cylinder, borescope and other inspections are in order to determine the cause.
