Just put one on order through spuce. Are they shipping? I did a quick scan of the documentation page and did not see anything on install or configuration. Is there any documentation that I can consume while the hardware is on the way?

They are not for sale yet and we do not have a ship date. Spruce can't place an order with us either, we don't take preorders, even from dealers.

We won't have any real documentation until we're shipping. You can find the pinout in this thread.

Thinking about locations for the box and the antenna, may have some good options, but a quick question...

Any limitations on the lengths of the wires? Max serial line length, or minimum coax length?

No, there are no restrictions on wire lengths (at least ones that you'll run into in any airplane that is less than 100' long).

Sorry to continue with the never ending antenna questions, but will the rod style transponder antennae work with your receiver?  The Comant CI-101 is a transponder antenna, but lists its frequency range as 1030 to 1090 MHz.  Almost all of the other Comant (blade) antennae have a range of 960 to 1220.  I already have a CI-101 and was hoping to use it.

Hi!
What would we from Europe benifit from SV-ADSB modul?
I am looking for alternative to Zaon XRX. As i know today there is no other device that can pickup on board other airborne class C and S mode transponders. Am I correct?

"This new SkyView module will be available Fall, 2012, along with firmware updates to the SkyView system and the SV-XPNDR-261/262 transponder modules."

OK--it's fall 2012

Will there be any way to share the ADS-B data with a Garmin GTN series navigator? Garmin sells the GDL-88, but it's $4k!

Sorry, we won't be able to share the ADS-B data with another device.

Fall. Later in the fall. You may have seen snow, depending on where you live. But it should still be Fall, technically :D

Marc,
Not sure what your main confusion is.

As we said above, "Eventually, Garmin will release software updates for the GNS and GTN products to make them compliant, but as of today they are not so you can't use them."

You can read the notice here:
http://www8.garmin.com/aviation/notices/1215.pdf

And that's all we know. There's no data as to why the GTN or GNS devices are not compliant, but as long as there is a service letter out saying they aren't, then we can't legally use one and claim compliance.

We also can't promise today that we'll be able to use the GTN or GNS devices in the future. Given that they are changing the firmware, they may make undocumented changes which make it impossible for a non-Garmin device to use them. We won't know until they publish the update and we can get our hands on it.

All of that worry is kind of a non-issue today though. Nobody needs a certified GPS in the USA until 2020, and there's a lot that can and will happen in 8 years. You'll get all the benefits of ADS-B with a non-certified GPS until 2020.

Per a post from Garmin on the Van's forums regarding a service bulletin announcing new firmware/software:

"Yes, this software upgrade for the Garmin GNS 4XXW/5XXW products does indeed add the required changes for these unit to become ADS-B compliant position outputs per 91.227 and AC 20-165.

Please contact your Garmin dealer or Garmin directly should you wish to have service bulletin 1225 installed."

So what is Dynon's response at this time?

There's no logical response we can make until we have our test GNS and GTN units updated here and can verify that we can use the data successfully. We only got that announcement on Friday like everyone else did. Garmin doesn't exactly give us inside information ;)

it seems you will need the units updated in a flying aircraft since they have to verify antennas and other items as well

Hopefully I will not see snow in palm beach as that usually indicates that jail is not too far away :)

Is the start of December considered Winter?
